What is the Maine Osteopathic Educational Foundation?
The Maine Osteopathic Educational Foundation’s is a 501(c) 3 organization whose mission is to advance the educational goals and public educational activities that promote the osteopathic profession throughout the state of Maine.
What is a Sustaining Member?
Sustaining members provide support to the Maine Osteopathic Educational Foundation which directly benefits the low interest loan fund for osteopathic medical students. Personal contributions made to MOEF are 100% tax deductible. Your contribution provides a long-term commitment, devoted entirely to easing the financial burden for promising Maine students of osteopathic medicine.
How did this low interest loan fund develop?
Through a $25,000 matching grant from the Osteopathic Heritage Fund (OHF). This is a partnership with the Maine Medical Association, whereby the OHF will match contributions dollar for dollar. With these dollars, the MOEF has opened up a new low interest loan opportunity that was not previously available to osteopathic medical students in Maine.
How many osteopathic medical students have benefited so far?
Each year, the loan fund contributed approximately $300,000 in loans to M.D. and D.O. Students. Now that the loan fund has been opened to D.O. students, it provides 15% or up to $45,000 of the available low interest loan funds to be earmarked for osteopathic medical student applications per year on an on-going basis.
Thank you for helping our next generation of D.O.’s stay and practice in Maine.
